As the semester continues to fly by, I was able to teach my lesson for the very first day of school! While I only presented 10 minutes of my entire 90-minute lesson plan, I was able to take a lot from this lesson and get ready for the real classroom in just a few short months! From planning fun activities to being able to engage in meaningful discussions with my students, I already know the first day of student teaching will be very exciting!

I was able to learn a lot about this teaching lab and how to incorporate all of these aspects of effective teaching. One of the most impactful lessons that I learned while reflecting was that it's important to build on students' interests in order to gain enthusiasm. I may find something exciting and be enthused, however, I need to find something that my students are excited about and then connect that to the topic in the lesson! I decided to introduce myself through a fun Kahoot game with funny memes, gifs, and pictures to relate more to my students!
I was able to practice some of the skills in my lab of what effective teaching looks like. Some of the main points that I learned from this experience relates to what I learned earlier in the semester. Our acronym to help remember the characteristics of effective teaching is BECOV.
Business like Behavior
Enthusiasm
Clarity
Opportunity to learn
Variability

I am so excited to apply this to my future classroom and utilize some new methods of engagement that I have learned. I will be able to apply the new strategies learned from this lab and all of the theory behind teaching in my future class this spring!
Thanks for checking out my blog this week and stay tuned to see what other great adventures I go on during my Ag Ed Journey!
