Conquering My Fears With Mr. Moyer

I had the pleasure to visit my amazing cohort member Mr. Moyer in April to observe his teaching practices! Greenwood FFA has always been a program that interests me and I was blown away at the amazing opportunities these students have in this school! When I first arrived, I was amazed at how these students have such a great relationship with their teachers. Mr. Moyer did a great job at making the students feel welcomed! One practice that I want to take from him and apply in my classroom is simply thanking the students for coming to class. I loved how the students responded to that simple action and were excited to be in class.

Another key takeaway from observing Mr. Moyer was his flexibility while teaching to meet the needs of the students! He was very good at interacting with students to ensure they were able to accomplish the day's tasks. I loved how they use classroom notebooks as this was one resource I tried and fell in love with! The classroom was well structured and I was impressed with how Mr. Moyer was able to provide the best support for his students!

During my visit to Greenwood, Mr. Moyer had brought one of his snakes into the classroom to introduce his reptile unit. I had told Mr. Moyer years ago that my biggest fear was snakes, but I wanted to overcome that fear. He was able to help other students overcome their fear of snakes as he even used the snake as a prop in his leadership class when coaching students about overcoming fears (whether it be snakes or public speaking, etc). I loved how he was able to connect his snake to every class and engage with students of all ages! When we visited a 2nd-grade classroom with the snake, many little kids were able to overcome their fears and pet the snake, so that gave me the inspiration to overcome my fears! This visit was certainly one to remember!

Thank you Greenwood for your warm welcome and Mr. Moyer for all that you taught me! I am so grateful to have visited your student teaching site and cannot wait to see all that you accomplish in your future!

Finally conquered my fears!
