Some of the highlights include the conversations in the van ride-up and hearing about how they want to apply their knowledge once we returned back in the chapter! I challenged the students to meet five new members from across the state that are not from chapters they are familiar with! These students certainly stepped out of their comfort zone, but walked away with many new friends!
As a new ag teacher, it was a unique perspective attending these conferences! I certainly learned the importance of being organized and prepared when it comes to paperwork, etc. I also enjoyed being able to attend some professional development and network with other teachers while the students were in sessions! I am looking forward to coming back to be able to participate in professional development more in the future!
My last key takeaway was learning to be willing to step up and be part of the courtesy crew! I am not a night person but enjoyed the late-night conversations while roaming the halls to make sure the students are following curfew. I made so many great memories with the students and cannot wait to travel back to ACES and SLLC in the future!
