Week 13: Discovering Connections Through Inquiry Labs

Week 13 of student teaching has come and gone! I can certainly attest to time flies when you're having fun! This past week was full of many great lessons, so check out some of my highlights of the week!

In horticulture, we were finishing our plant nutrition unit and talking about the possible effects of improper fertilizer application. Through completing an inquiry lab, we discovered different ways to prevent nutrient leaching! These students conducted an experiment in the greenhouse to compare what methods were most successful in the reduction of leached nutrients. The two groups created a drainage system in their controlled "soil profile" as well as practiced terracing. Although it was a messy lab, we were able to see how these various methods were able to reduce the water and soil leaching through the soil profile.

Some of my goals moving forward include increasing my variability in lessons and assessments! I want to continue to engage the students in unique experiences that will enhance the learning objectives. This week was full of excitement and I really enjoyed working through these challenging labs together as a class!
