As I continue through the Ag Ed journey, it's important to plan out where the final destination will be for student teaching! There are a few components that I am looking for in a cooperating center. Let's go through some of the key characteristics that I am hoping to find in my final destination!
1) Easy-going teacher
I am a very laid-back person who enjoys the simplest things in life. I am really hoping to build a deep and personal connection with my cooperating teacher. I love to make jokes and try to always have a positive mindset. I am hoping that my cooperating teacher will be organized and hardworking, but also have a kind personality and like to enjoy the little moments throughout the day. I know that I perform best when I am in a comfortable environment, so having a laid-back teacher will surely help me during student teaching.

2) Multi-teacher program
Growing up in a small school, my agriculture program only had one teacher. I would really like to learn the dynamics of a multi-teacher program. There is a lot of value in learning to work with others, so why not take the opportunity to learn during student teaching. I would also like to be able to learn multiple perspectives of teaching and discover different teaching strategies from working with multiple teachers.
3) Strong academics and diverse classes
The majority of my agriculture background is in plant science. I feel comfortable with that topic and would like the opportunity to fine-tune my skills in that subject. With that being said, I know that I have a lot of room for growth in the animal science department as well as mechanics. Ideally, my cooperating school will have a good variety of classes taught so then I am able to grow in many different subject areas and diversify my agriculture knowledge.
4) Active and supportive community
One of my main goals for student teaching is to not just be known as the student-teacher for that year. I want to build relationships with community members and make a positive difference during my time there. I believe that to be a good teacher, you should be able to relate to your students and support the community that supports you. In my opinion, teaching is more than delivering lessons each day, but it's making a positive difference in your students' lives. Playing an active role in the community will allow me to better understand my students and build better and more meaningful relationships!
These top 4 characteristics are very important to me and who I want to be as a student-teacher. As I continue to work through meeting with schools from across the state, I am more and more excited at all of the available programs there are for me to potentially work with. Very shortly, I should know where the X will mark for my "destination" for student teaching! Stay tuned, and let's see where the journey leads!
