Week 14: Time Flies When You're Having Fun

It is hard to believe that week 14 of student teaching is complete! There were so many great highlights from this past week, check out some of the great things that the Gettysburg students were able to accomplish!

Although I was only teaching two classes, we were still able to make many memories and meet our end
goals for the week! In horticulture, the students were about to draw their connections from our previous units to create a plant nutrition storyboard. After their presentations, we then drew more connections and reflected on how the horticulture industry would be relevant in their future lives! These students created unique plans on how they were going to grow their own garden in the future or support the local farmers when grocery shopping! These students not only can take their knowledge about how to grow healthy plants but can apply their goals for incorporating the horticulture industry into their future lives! As a way to celebrate all of their accomplishments, we were able to take advantage of the beautiful weather and prepare our courtyard for the spring! What a great way to end teaching my horticulture class!

In my introduction to agriculture class, we are applying our local wildlife knowledge with our wildlife
management plans to complete a service project in the next week! These students worked in groups to identify and research information about the local bird species in the area. They designed various bird boxes to meet the needs of the diverse bird species behind the school! Next week we will assemble the boxes and place them around the school property!

Some of my goals for this upcoming week include taking advantage of every moment! With next week being my last week of student teaching, I want to finish student teaching strong and continue to make each class meaningful and engaging for my students. My first lesson ever taught in Gettysburg was about the importance of service and how we can serve others. I thought it would be a great way to end my student teaching experience through a service-learning project. I hope to have the students complete their project by the end of next week to not only apply their knowledge but also give back to the community as well!
